Urgent Weather Alert: Monsoon Rains Intensify in Punjab

Punjab provincial authorities have declared a high-risk alert as monsoon patterns intensify over the coming days. Torrential rain, high winds, and thunderstorms are forecast across the region until July 17, prompting flash flood and landslide warnings.

Widespread Impacts Forecasted

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reports 111monsoon-related fatalities since June 26, including 40 in Punjab, with 212 people injured nationwide. The seasonal rainfall brings vital nourishment to agriculture but has increasingly triggered disasters due to extreme weather phenomena.

Alert Coverage and Heavy Rain Zones

PDMA’s monitoring centres have flagged heavy showers across Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, and Bahawalpur. Elevated terrains such as Murree, Galiyat, and Dera Ghazi Khan are particularly vulnerable to landslide events due to saturated ground conditions.

Emergency Preparedness Efforts

Responding teams are on standby, and municipal services are clearing stormwater drains to reduce urban flooding threats. Citizens are encouraged to relocate from flood-prone zones, secure loose objects, and follow evacuation instructions if issued.

Public Advisory

The public is reminded to refrain from unnecessary travel, move away from unsafe structures and power lines, and avoid visiting hilly terrain until the weather system moves on.
